Frequently Asked Questions
Planning a journey through South Asia can feel overwhelming—but that’s part of its magic. Each country we serve in the region is incredibly distinct, yet deeply connected by history, culture, and spirit.
India is vast and endlessly diverse. From deserts to dense jungles to the soaring Himalayas, every region tells a different story. You’ll find hundreds of languages, countless cuisines, and architectural wonders—like the Taj Mahal—that leave travelers in awe.
Sri Lanka, a teardrop-shaped island just off India’s southern coast, is rich in natural beauty and cultural depth. Home to all of the world’s major religions, it offers golden beaches, misty highlands, tea estates, and eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites—some dating back to 380 B.C.
Crossing the Himalayas brings you to the serene mountain kingdoms of Nepal and Bhutan. Both are known for their warm hospitality, breathtaking landscapes, and a blend of Buddhist and Hindu traditions. Here, ancient monasteries and temples are tucked into peaceful valleys and scenic trails, waiting to be explored.
If you’re not sure where to begin, don’t worry—you’re in the right place. Below, we’ve answered some of the most common questions to help you plan a smooth and enriching South Asia adventure.
The earlier, the better! South Asia has distinct travel seasons, and demand can be high—especially in peak months. Because we customize every itinerary to your preferences, we recommend beginning the planning process at least 8–10 months in advance (or more). This gives us time to thoughtfully design and secure the best experiences for your journey.
Generally, the ideal time to travel is between October and March, when the weather is dry and pleasant. For Nepal and Bhutan, travel is also good through early May—just before the monsoon season begins.
Absolutely! Each country offers a unique experience, but combining them can create an even richer journey. We design multi-country trips with care to ensure smooth transitions and avoid repetitive experiences.
Given the distance and diversity of the region, we recommend a minimum of 10–12 days (plus travel time) for a single-country trip. For multi-country itineraries, plan on at least 15 days to make the most of your time without feeling rushed.
Yes, visas are required:
- India & Sri Lanka: Apply easily online through their respective government portals.
- Bhutan: We’ll arrange your visa as part of your trip, working with our local team.
- Nepal: Available on arrival for a small fee—just bring a passport photo and payment in cash.
No vaccinations are currently required for entry. However, we highly recommend checking the CDC’s travel health website and consulting your personal physician or a travel clinic to make informed decisions based on your health needs.
Comfort is key! We recommend:
- Light, breathable clothing for warm days.
- Conservative attire (shoulders and knees covered) when visiting religious sites.
- Warm layers (fleece, hat, scarf) if traveling to Nepal or Bhutan in winter months—mornings and evenings can be chilly.
We’ll provide you with a detailed packing list once your trip is confirmed.
Yes—traveling with children can be a rewarding experience in this region, where they are warmly welcomed and respected. However, due to the sensory intensity—such as crowds, vibrant colors, and bustling sounds—we recommend these destinations for children who are already comfortable with international travel. We also encourage a thoughtfully paced itinerary that includes breaks and downtime to ensure an enjoyable experience for the whole family.
Yes—all hotels provide electricity and Wi-Fi access. In more remote areas, connectivity might be slower, but you’ll still be able to stay connected.
Yes. The countries we work with are safe for tourism, and we partner with trusted local guides and staff throughout your trip. As with any international destination, we advise taking standard precautions and respecting local customs.
Absolutely! Food across South Asia is flavorful, diverse, and often regionally specific. Whether you’re vegetarian, gluten-free, or have specific allergies, most hotels are able to accommodate special dietary needs with advance notice. Just let us know during the planning process, and we’ll ensure your preferences are shared with each property.
Most of our trips include a moderate amount of walking, sometimes on uneven terrain (temple steps, market streets, etc.). For treks or hiking in Bhutan and Nepal, we’ll discuss fitness requirements in advance. We’re happy to tailor itineraries to match your comfort level.
From the moment you arrive to the time you depart, our trusted local partners are available to assist you. Whether it’s airport pickups, internal flights, or last-minute adjustments, we provide 24/7 ground support so you can relax and enjoy your adventure with confidence.
