Founded by travel specialist Rumit Mehta, Immersion Journeys was built on a simple philosophy: the most memorable journeys are rooted in authenticity, thoughtful planning, and genuine local connection. What began as a passion for sharing personal travel experiences and cultural perspectives has evolved into a specialized travel company designing immersive, personalized journeys across Africa, South Asia, and beyond.

Meet Our Founder
Rumit Mehta
Founder & Travel Specialist
Born in Kenya and raised in Tanzania to a family of Indian heritage, Rumit Mehta brings nearly two decades of experience designing immersive journeys across Africa and South Asia. Drawing on lifelong connections to both regions, he has spent his career creating thoughtfully curated itineraries that celebrate wildlife, culture, history, and conservation while reflecting the unique character of each destination.
Today, Rumit works closely with local communities, expert guides, and conservation partners to design journeys that support conservation, celebrate local cultures, and foster deeper connections with each destination. Under his leadership, Immersion Journeys has been recognized on the Travel + Leisure A-List in 2024, 2025, and 2026, featured in National Geographic Traveler’s “50 Tours of a Lifetime,” and honored by both South Africa Tourism and the Tanzania Tourism Board.
Callie Hensen
Client Services & Travel Operations
Curiosity has always been at the heart of Callie Hensen’s love of travel. Having lived in the United States, Peru, Colombia, Switzerland, and Spain, she has developed an international perspective and a deep appreciation for the people, cultures, wildlife, and landscapes that make every destination unique. These experiences continue to shape the way she approaches travel and the care she brings to every guest’s experience.
At Immersion Journeys, Callie works closely with guests, local partners, and the wider team to ensure every journey is carefully planned from beginning to end. From crafting personalized itineraries and coordinating travel logistics to guiding travelers through the pre-departure process, she is dedicated to making every guest feel informed, prepared, and excited for the adventure ahead. Through her firsthand travels and close collaboration with trusted partners across Africa and South Asia, she helps deliver the personalized service, local insight, and attention to detail that define the Immersion Journeys experience.

Through partnerships with local guides, conservation organizations, lodges, and community initiatives, we strive to support sustainable tourism practices that protect wildlife, preserve cultural heritage, and contribute to local economies. Many of the experiences we design also create opportunities for travelers to engage more meaningfully with conservation and community-led initiatives, whether through visiting wildlife conservation programs, supporting locally owned camps and lodges, learning from Indigenous and local communities, or participating in educational experiences focused on regional culture, history, and environmental stewardship.
